Captain Diane Moore was appointed to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department in April 1979. Since her appointment she has worked in the Detention Services Bureau and the Patrol, Court Services, Criminal Investigation and Internal Affairs Division. She was an original member of the Jail Program and Transition Team, created for the planning and construction of what is now the Criminal Justice Facility.
In 1980, Captain Moore was the first female deputy to be given permanent assignment to the Patrol Division. She went on to be the first African-American female Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain in the Sheriff's Department. She is currently assigned as Administrative Supervisor in the Detention Service Bureau with the duties of Shift Commander for the day shift.
Captain Moore is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee having majored in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. She is also a graduate of the Northwestern University of Police Staff and Command.
The mother of three children, Moore has been a mentor to other women in the Sheriff's Department and throughout the community.
