Six Rufus King students recently scored very well on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Qualifying Test (PSAT).  Alexander Hoyer, Elizabeth Jazwiecki, Elizabeth Mosier, and Nathaniel Sullivan were named National Merit Scholars by scoring in the top 1% of high school students taking the PSAT. Two other King students, Amanda Meyers and Jacob Spence, were named National Achievement Scholars by scoring in the top 1% of African American high school students taking the PSAT.

Students must take the PSAT/National Merit Qualifying Test in a specified year of high school, no later than junior year. They must be enrolled as a high school student, have United States citizenship, move steadily towards graduation and plan to attend college in the fall following high school completion. The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test is administered in October. It is open to all juniors interested in practicing for the SAT or becoming a National Merit or Achievement Scholar. Extra tests are offered to specific high achieving sophomores. The test fee is approximately $13. For juniors who qualify for free or reduced price lunch, the test is free. National Merit and National Achievement Scholars receive $2500 for college.
