The Milwaukee Public Schools' online Parent Assistant and Student Assistant allows parents/guardians and students to attendance, course grades, and standardized test scores – all available instantaneously. Parents can also update personal and emergency contact information directly online (which is then reviewed and verified by the school). All information is kept private, and each parent must complete a special application to help guarantee security and privacy of their information. For parents with multiple students in MPS, all children can be accessed via one PIN number. Students can use their standard MPS Web login/password. For families who may not have access at home, computers with Internet access are available at public libraries, at school, and many workplaces.
Interested parents need to apply for security access to this information, and then they can view the information using a computer with the Internet.
Rufus King High School also has an "e-learning" course site, a standard at most colleges and universities. This Web site serves as a resource to support classes, where teachers can post assignments and handouts, have students complete online practice exercises and quizzes, and encourage students to collaborate and post their assignments for the teacher to grade. A few teachers are piloting this amazing technology with their classes, and student reaction has been quite favorable.
Only a few classes are currently available; students use their standard MPS login/password to access the site. Parents can ask their student(s) for login information, so they may also see course information, as necessary. |
